Five Simple Steps to Jump Start Your Home Based Business

Have you invested in a home based business and been left wondering "now what?"
Starting your own work at home business is an exciting thing to do and can also be intimidating because after the initial excitement wears off many people are left without qualified support and end up quitting before they ever get started.
This article will provide you with five simple steps to jump start your home based business and start making money from home.
Step 1 - How much time are you willing to invest in your home based business?
Take an honest look at your daily schedule and determine how much time you could devote to your business every day. Once you determine the amount of time you can devote to it every day decide on the hours per day that you will be working on your business and don't let anyone pull you away from your schedule.
Step 2 - Set a budget
One of the biggest mistakes that people make when investing in a home based business is putting all of their expenses on credit cards. This is a huge mistake because by using credit cards you're going to end up paying double or triple for small, simple expenses.
Every business has expenses from purchasing office supplies, computer supplies and paying bills. It's important that you be prepared for these expenses and not end up borrowing money or using credit cards to pay for them.
How much money could you save for your business expenses every month by cutting junk food, fast food or other wasteful things out of your monthly budget?
Step 3 - How will you sell your products and services?
You should start by asking yourself 'who do I know?' and then create a list of friends and family members that would be interested in learning more about your business. This is an important step because for starters it's a great way to get you talking about your business and if you make a sale from talking to friends or family members you didn't have to spend any money to get it.
After talking with your friends and family members you should consider branching out and advertising your products or services through print and online media.
You could start advertising in your local area by placing small classified advertisements to promote your products or services. I would recommend advertising in small local publications like the Penny Saver or other free weekly publications.
If you decide to advertise online your first step should be creating a website to promote your business and then advertising that site through pay per click advertising (PPC), online classified ads, blogs, forums, e-newsletters, banner advertisements and even article marketing. There are many online advertising resources that you can begin using for little to no money.
Step 4 - Write a business plan
Many people that invest in home based businesses don't think about writing a business plan because they don't either take their home business serious enough or view it as actual work.
If you write a business plan and clearly define what your home business is, how you're going to run your business and what the goals for your home based business are you will have a clear direction and a "road map" that you can go back to time and again if you find yourself getting sidetracked or loosing the motivation to keep going.
Step 5 - Stay healthy
Staying healthy is important especially when running your own home based business because home business owners often neglect their health and let themselves become run down due to the long hours that they work, lack of sleep, poor diet and lack of exercise.
What's your diet like every day? How much water do you drink? How much exercise do you get? These are important questions to ask because good health is an important building block in building a successful home based business.
